There is a point that I have used today in 4/7 treatments thus far. Pericardium 6. It’s versatile and in high demand today. Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture has 365 classical points and PC 6 is one. Translated as Inner pass it exists about 2-3 inches from the palm side of the wrist, toward the elbow, between the tendons. As with many points it has many functions depending on the other points used with it and depending on the condition.
It’s great if you experience nausea for any reason. One of my clients today who experienced a fall at about 31 weeks of pregnancy that lead to pre term labour contractions was a recipient of this point. Ever since becoming pregnant she has been experiencing nausea, now nausea can lead to vomiting and that has worsened, or lately triggered contractions. By calming the nausea we help keep that baby in for as long as possible and do far it’s working!
Palpitations. Some experience this with notable emotional anxiety, some experience just a physical sensation of an irregular heartbeat. The pericardium is an organ that wraps around the heart and is the Yang pair to the Yin Heart meridian in TCM. Treating this meridian has a direct impact on calming the heart. For anxious feelings, palpations and for high and low blood pressure (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18935912) this points has effect. You can take a look at the study listed for me I just listed to the real time experience of my patient today. When his heart slowed down, the palpations ceased, his feelings of anxiousness subsided and he was able to fall asleep on the table, I was satisfied with the result. Another had a direct drop in his blood pressure, I like to measure these things before and after.
Sleep can be one of those natural healing activities that some people just grasp at and are unable to attain. Fortunately insomnia is on the list of conditions treated with the use of PC6. And treat we did. Sometimes the pace of city life, FOMO, finances, romantic partnerships, work conflicts can all accumulate and lead to bouts insomnia. This morning patient returned after a few months of pretty good sleep, so I needled the inner pass and sent her off to low counts of sheep.
