An interview with Barbara Poczyniak, Registered Acupuncturist & Arvigo Therapist:
Hello, I am thrilled to be offering Arvigo Therapy® and Acupuncture to the Darou Wellness community. My practice focuses on Women’s Health, Reproductive and Digestive issues. Both Arvigo Therapy® and Acupuncture are based on a holistic approach to help the body’s innate ability to repair and regenerate.
What brings you to this work?
My own health issues initially started me down the path to study Acupuncture, Chinese Medicine and eventually the Arvigo techniques. Over the years I knew I was always meant to focus on Fertility and Women’s Reproductive health, find the right teachers, and build up my professional ‘tool kit’ in order to help others.
I love Chinese Medicine’s view that fertility pertains to a woman’s health throughout her entire lifetime, and that all stages of a woman’s reproductive life should be cherished. Fertility is about becoming pregnant, and about having children, but also about so much more than this. The state of a woman’s fertility is what ultimately determines her physical and emotional health throughout her whole life– whether this means having pain free periods, an easy conception, a healthy pregnancy or a peaceful menopause.
One of the core ideas in the Mayan healing tradition is that the uterus is at a woman’s centre. It is considered to be a very important organ throughout her life, and its placement and balance help determine the state of a woman’s health and fertility.
Barbara’s interview – explaining Arvigo Therapy:
What is Arvigo Therapy®?
Founded on an ancient Maya technique from Central America, Arvigo Therapy® is an external, non-invasive massage therapy. It is also known as the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® or ‘ATMAT’. This therapy gently stimulates circulation and blood flow within the abdominal area. These techniques address the optimum position of abdominal organs and support the healthy function of digestive and reproductive systems.
Dr. Rosita Arvigo is an American Naprapathic physician, herbalist and researcher. She developed the Arvigo Techniques based on her own professional expertise combined with over 40 years of studying Maya Abdominal therapies with the native healers of Central America.
Who can benefit from Arvigo Therapy®?
Arvigo Therapy® helps to address misalignment and congestion in the area of the reproductive and digestive systems. Therefore, it may help with issues related to fertility challenges and reproductive issues such as Endometriosis, PCOS, painful periods, uterine fibroids, frequent bladder infections, ovarian cysts, displaced uterus, peri-menopause or menopause symptoms, and more.
For digestive issues, it can be useful to help treat disorders such as GERD, Crohn’s, IBS, indigestion; as well as urinary issues, low back ache, and even post surgical scar tissue recovery.
What to expect in an Arvigo Therapy® session?
We start with a comprehensive review of your personal health history and current health needs. The treatment itself includes evaluation of the body posture, hip and spine alignment and then abdominal massage focused on aligning reproductive and digestive organs. All of the massage is external. Massage of the back and sacrum helps to further circulation to the areas of concern.
We typically end the session with some recommendations to improve health as well as a demonstration of Self Care. Treatment sessions are customized according to your needs and may also be combined with traditional acupuncture, acupressure or cupping in addition to the Arvigo techniques.
What is Self Care?
Performing the self care massage on a regular basis at home is an important part of the treatment process. This helps to sustain the good circulation and blood flow initiated by the professional treatment. By doing Self Care massage regularly you carry the treatment on long after you have left your appointment. You feel more in control of your well being and are physically and emotionally connected to the process.
I look forward to meeting you and introducing more women (and men!) to the gentle healing possibilities of Arvigo Therapy®.
