The crisp air is here. Autumn’s nature to cool, dry, gather and let go begins to shape our lives and time. In Traditional Chinese Medicine this is Metal time and Lungs & Large intestine are the organs of the season.
In this article, I will cover what you can expect from the Metal season and how to restore balance this Autumn.
How to best care for you and harmonize with the season?
Breathe: Lungs are strengthened by full deep breaths. Taking walks in this crisp autumn air it strengthens your overall immune system, oxygenates the blood and increases our energy to sort as we move into the cooler months.
Let go: The trees do it, taking deeper into the trunk and root the energy stores for winter, we too can metaphorically sluff off what we no longer need. It’s time to sort and clear and make room for the harvest of summer to sustain us through winter. The health of the Large Intestines key to letting go, the end of the digestive system, it’s a good time of year to clear the body of waste.
As a Yin & Yang team, the Lung & Large Intestine working together ensure the health of the skin; one taking in the pure air increasing blood flow the other releasing waste. The deeper the breaths the more it promotes peristalsis.
Metal season encourages us to find our value, our self-worth. This is the time we begin the introspection, grieve what we’ve lost and hold dear what remains once we’ve sifted through. In body and mind we are encouraged to let go of clutter and behaviours that may be keeping us back from our purist most valuable life.
As a registered practitioner of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Renee works with patients individually to determine personal food and lifestyle needs.
