What is Clementine Fields, and what makes you unique?
We are an online green beauty boutique that carries family-friendly products that are the healthiest and cleanest we’ve been able to find!
Tell us about how you got into this business – why are natural personal care and beauty products important to you?
I was diagnosed with a chronic form of leukemia in 2007. My prognosis was good, but I knew then and there that I was going to do everything in my power to never hear the words, “You have cancer” again. I became super aware of everything I put in and on my body. A few years later, my husband (and Clementine Fields partner) and I adopted an amazing baby girl and I was flabbergasted at how much she was always touching my skin. We wanted to be sure that what she touched was completely natural and safe, and more importantly, that what we put on her skin was absolutely clean and chemical free.
We started researching and trying natural skin care products… many of which we fell in love with. Our mandate became clear: they had to feel beautiful, be clean and effective, and pretty enough to sit on a vanity.
This was the inspiration for Clementine Fields – health and beauty in one. Striving to find the best quality products with the least environmental impact, we research to find the safest, most effective and most beautiful clean and green lines that are as much about what’s not in them as the goodness that is.
We know there are many toxic ingredients in personal care products. What are the top 5 toxic ingredients to watch out for?
It’s hard to narrow it down to just five, but some that come to mind right away are:
- SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate)
- phthalates (found in non-natural fragrances)
- triclosan (found in hand sanitizers)
- petroleum (found in products like Vaseline, lip balms)
Why is it important to avoid these ingredients in cosmetics?
Each of these ingredients pose real risks and we should try to avoid them. Parabens have been found in breast tumor tissue. Phthalates are used in plastics ( toys, water bottles, perfumes , cosmetics) and are known hormone disrupters and suspected carcinogens. SLS can penetrate the skins tissue and be irritating to the scalp, skin and eyes.
You are passionate about Beauty and Health – can you tell us how those two things can go hand in hand?
There is there is a lot of darkness in the world, so finding the small things in your life that you find to be beautiful is important – a beautiful cup of tea…a great pillow with pretty fabric – it’s the little things that make me happy and that can only influence my health in wonderful ways!
You offer a Canadian Collection – can you tell us a little bit about it, and why it was important for you to include?
Well, we are Canadian! When I first had my health scare, I was looking for the healthiest possible lines, and I had a hard time finding Canadian products. Later, when we launched the shop and started doing research we started to find great Canadian products and companies, and we’re so happy to be able to connect people with these great lines – people want to shop Canadian! Another benefit for customers is that the prices don’t fluctuate (because of the American dollar) …we feel it is very important to support Canadian businesses.
Can you share some of your current favourite lines or products?

Tell us about your Sample Program.
People were asking for it! Shopping online for skin care and beauty products can be hard, so we wanted to make sure people could be confident about buying the products. This way, people can try out a line or product before committing to purchasing a full-sized item, and it therefore also reduces waste, since we don’t do returns on opened items. It’s win-win for everyone. Samples range from $1-$10 depending on the cost of the full-sized product. We also have local pickup in Toronto for both samples and regular orders at Coal Miner’s Daughter on Queen Street. For more information on this service: http://www.clementinefields.ca/pages/shipping
