August’s Darou Wellness approved business is MuseMovement Studio, a pilates and yoga studio. They are located at Artscape Youngplace: 180 Shaw St., Unit 204 | Toronto, ON M6J 2W5
What is MuseMovement Studio, and what makes you unique?
We are a boutique experience Pilates and yoga classroom, specializing in empowering and inspiring people through movement and body education. Our modern, Smart Hard method is very special and allows people of all levels to join our inclusive and supportive community. What’s different is that we see movement as therapy, its a way to move not just your body but your brain and your heart, shake it up and get inspired in your life. We also make sure there is always laughter and our playlists are legendary.
Why is movement such an important part of overall health and wellness?
It’s where everything begins. Our bodies are beautifully engineered to move and be active. If you don’t move you get sticky. This gets imprinted into your muscles and your tissues, your cells and your soul and that is where injury and disease fester, in stagnancy. It doesn’t have to be grandiose but you gotta move to be vital.
What kinds of classes and teachings do you offer at the studio?
We have a lot of offerings. Privates sessions for rehabilitation or simply to work towards your specific goals. Pilates on the mat and the reformer machine. We also have Yoga classes and, Harmony, which is a unique, melodious marriage of yoga and Pilates. We run workshops as well. Our clients love our Yoga Tune up workshop which uses massage balls to help release tension and provide deep relaxation. This month we are running a free dance class where participants can learn the dance routine to the “Sorry” music video. Its all about exploring, learning, trying new things and having fun.
What about people who have existing injuries, or conditions that restrict some movements – are there safe ways for everyone to integrate more movement into their lives?
Of course! We believe every body is able and Pilates is about as safe as you can get in terms of a movement practice. All of our teachers are super knowledgable and experienced so can always provide modifications. We suggest someone start with a introductory private session so we can assess their body’s in motion and help determine what the best route forward is to help them get back to freedom in movement.
How about people who have never taken a yoga or Pilates class, and find the idea a bit intimidating – what advice can you offer?
You gotta start somewhere. Be kind to yourself. Explore. Don not worry about what anyone else in the room is doing. Your teachers want to help you to succeed. You have nothing to lose and you will feel great afterwards. It is the guarantee of movement. Know that it is a practice and you will continually find new ways of connecting to your body. Find a community that feels safe for you and throw yourself in.
Can you tell us about your Restore Your Essence workshop happening this September?
Ooh Yes this is gonna be a juicy one. When we restore our bodies we help increase our resilience and connect deeper to our true essence. Thats where we get our vitality from. This workshop is a two hour self love fest that will explore breath and supportive restorative yoga postures. This is coupled with hands on massage from the instructor that will help you truly relax and regenerate. Its a perfect way to help your body and heart move into the fall season.
