What is Tealish, and what makes you unique?
Tealish is a modern tea company focused on procuring and creating unique and delicious gourmet teas. We have had a retail store for over 10 years and also sell our products to many gift stores, grocery stores, cafes and restaurants. We are on a mission to share our tea love with the world!
What are some of the health benefits of drinking tea?
Tea contains unique antioxidants called flavonoids. The most potent of these, known as ECGC, help fight against free radicals that can contribute to cancer and heart disease. Extensive research has shown that the combination of caffeine and L-theanine, a naturally-occurring amino acid found in tea, improves reaction time and memory, while increasing focus and concentration.
Can you tell us about the differences between green, black, white and herbal teas?
Tea is a name given to a lot of brews, but purely speaking only green tea, black tea, white tea and oolong tea are the real thing. They are derived from the Camellia Sinensis plant, a shrub native to China and India.
Herbal teas are any beverage made from infusing herbs, spices and other plant material in hot water. They usually do not contain caffeine.
Although we’re officially into spring, a lot of people are fighting colds at this time of year – do you have a recommendation for immunity-boosting?
There is evidence that green tea and chamomile tea can help strengthen the immune system. Both are loaded with powerful antioxidants. Chamomile increases the body’s production of white blood cells that destroy bacteria, viruses and fungi. Green tea stimulates the liver to secrete interferon, an immune compound that helps fight infection.
Ginger has been used for centuries to relieve a sore throat and loosen up congestion due to a cold.
A few of our favourite cold fighting teas are:
- Matcha (green tea that is ground up into a powder)
- Ginger Sparkle – a green tea with citrus and ginger
- Tranquilitea – herbal tea with chamomile, peppermint and rosehip
- Zesty Ginger Rooibos – rooibos with ginger, citrus and licorice root
- Apple Cinnamon Chamomile – herbal tea with apple, cinnamon and chamomile
Hot tea vs cold tea – does it matter?
All about personal preference! Hot tea can be soothing and comforting during the winter months or when nursing a cold. An iced tea, on a sunny, hot day can be the perfect thirst quencher! Both hot and cold tea offer the same benefits and it really just is a matter of personal preference!
Do you have a tea that is helpful in stopping sugar cravings?
Our favourite tea to help stop sugar cravings is our Toasty Almond herbal tea, which is part of our Dessert Tea Collection. Peppermint tea has a unique ability to satiate a sweet craving while also adding a complex flavour to the palate which calms hunger.
Floral herbals teas like lavender, hibiscus and chamomile are classics that bring a little something sweet along with their healing abilities. And herbal blends such as our Chai Rooibos with spices like anise, cinnamon, cardamom, clove and ginger also satisfy a sweet craving!
Tell us about some of your favourite teas, and why you love them!
Laura – I am pretty loyal to my Pomegranate Goji Green Tea and Fresh Air Herbal Tea (with lemongrass and flowers). They each have a hint of sweetness and a refreshing aftertaste that satisfies me every time.
Mike – I always go for a Matcha with some honey and lemon when I need a boost. And to wind down at the end of the day I love our Deep Green Embrace.
What is a tea smoothie?
A tea smoothie is a healthy, nutritious blended drink with frozen fruit, milk or milk alternative and a heaping tablespoon of Matcha Green Tea. Matcha is a concentrated form of green tea with many health perks. Very high in anti-oxidants, increases energy and endurance, provides a sense of calm, detoxifies the body and aids with weight loss.
