Neon green is all a buzz! You’ve noticed I’m sure. There’s a haze of it along Toronto streets, residential, even the planters on Bay street are lighting up.
There is a wisdom in Traditional Chinese Medicine – TCM that asks us to be present with nature. To follow it, do what it does, follow the wisdom that is the regeneration of life over again over again, out of Winter, must come Spring.
Spring is hard, buds are growing pushing upward as are the bellies of some of my patients. Babies are pushing against the earth of the womb, growing to achieve the right of passage and reach like buds for the sky.
Growing a baby is a particular kind of buzz that requires everything. You give it all in these times and in the last trimester there are some big milestones. Eyes will open, this vision is associated with the season of Spring in TCM. There is a lot of weight gain and baby pushing the boundaries of containment.
So sleep can be disturbed for the pain of growing, appetite increases, changes in the digestive system as a whole, energy changes, there’s a lot to negotiate within a body that is growing so much so fast. Of course so are the heart feelings that come along with the intense bonding from within, the gathering of family and friends to help celebrate each milestone as the belly feels the waves of baby’s spurts.
One of my patients last week came in, I knew they were tired by looking at their eyes, it can be so overwhelming. So we did what we could to hold the space and make the space for baby to have room and for the belly body to soften and release and find the breath needed for the next few weeks.
Change will come eventually and soon those baby eyes will be looking up at their parents. The bud that breaks the ground and reaches for spring all buzzing new, green!
